Today was a cleanup day. PUD arrived to complete the transformer hookup. Dan had his excavator away on another job. We expect work to continue in force on Monday.

Laying the Electric Cable

Morning:

Today was a busy day. PUD arrived in force with junction box, transformer, and 400 foot of heavy electric cable. Also Garret's electrician, Scott, arrived with two conduits to be buried above the cable for use for land-line telephone and a security gate in case we decide to get one.

Junction box and cable: The beginning digging footage was from late yesterday, the rest is from today:

Afternoon:

About 2 pm Dan, Martin, and Brad dug the side trench that will carry the water line and electrical cable from the well head to the transformer box. Then They laid the water line and positioned the Transformer box.

The first part of the video shows the main electrical line being covered. Note the care with which Martin and Dan ensure the conduits are buried. The side trench and transformer box follow:

Electrical Installation Prep and Brush Clearing

Morning:

This morning, Garret DelaBarre, our builder, emailed us that Dan Morrison's company, Morrison Excavating, would be up on the property moving the rocks from the edge of the driveway and digging a trench for the laying of Clallam County Public Utility Department (PUD) electrical cable, junction box, and transformer box.

When we got there, Garret and Martin, Dan's right hand man, were removing the final fence posts and then Martin began clearing the rocks (small basalt and granite boulders) from the west edge of the 400 foot driveway. He was using their large excavator to do an impressive job. Garret was sampling the blackberries and meeting with us to discuss progress:

Afternoon:

During most of the day when he wasn't moving rocks, Martin was clearing brush at various locations on the property. Dan Morrison's equipment is top notch! It can rip up good sized trees and can push over the bigger ones if needed.

Evening:

Just before the end of the work day, Martin dug the main electrical trench from the bottom of the driveway to a few feet from the top. Tomorrow, Dan will dig out a place around the old junction box and make room for a new, bigger one.
